Our Vision and Mission
Vision
A just and thriving Armenia where a united conservation community collaborates to value, protect, and restore nature — for people, for wildlife, and for future generations.
Mission
The IUCN National Committee Armenia brings together IUCN Members and Commission experts in Armenia to strengthen collective action for nature conservation. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and coordinated programme delivery — mobilising science, expertise, and partnership to address Armenia's most critical environmental challenges.
Why Armenia?
Armenia occupies a remarkable position at the intersection of two of the world's recognised biodiversity hotspots — the Caucasus and the Irano-Anatolian. Its territory encompasses extraordinary ecological diversity, from semi-arid lowlands and volcanic plateaus to alpine meadows and ancient forest systems, and is home to thousands of endemic and threatened species found nowhere else on Earth.
This biodiversity heritage is under growing pressure. Climate change, land-use transformation, unsustainable resource use, and habitat fragmentation threaten the ecological foundations on which Armenia's communities and economy depend. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated action, shared knowledge, and a united conservation community.
Visibility and Communication
Acting as a communication bridge between Members and the IUCN Secretariat, and raising the profile of IUCN's work and Members' contributions within Armenia among the public, media, and decision-makers.
IUCN Governance and Programme Engagement
Organising and supporting the active participation of Armenian Members in IUCN's governance processes, including the World Conservation Congress, the development of the IUCN Programme, and regional forums coordinated through ECARO.
Knowledge and Experience Exchange
Facilitating the flow of IUCN knowledge, tools, standards, and best practices among Members, and connecting Armenian experts with IUCN's global network of Commissions and specialists.
Policy Dialogue and Advisory
Channelling the collective expertise and credibility of IUCN Members and Commission experts into national environmental policy processes, advising decision-makers and contributing to legislation, strategies, and international commitments relevant to Armenia's nature.
Coordination and Common Agenda
Serving as the primary platform where IUCN Members in Armenia — government bodies, civil society organisations, and scientific institutions — come together to exchange views, align positions, and develop a shared conservation agenda for the country.
